Mark and I made our first trip to Orange County a few weekends ago for our anniversary. We drove to Newport Beach, which is about an hour drive from Pasadena and spent a few hours exploring Balboa Island.

We cruised through Newport Beach (super fancy) and went straight to Balboa Island, which is right off the coast. Balboa Island was the cutest little spot– we walked down the main street in town, popping into little boutiques and stopping for a frozen banana before strolling along the waterfront and taking the ferry (just $2 a person!) over to Balboa Peninsula.

the best cookbooks

I love baking (as obvious from my Instagram and other posts), but I also have really come to enjoy cooking in the past few years. I think it’s a combination of having a kitchen bigger than my bathroom (cooking with no counter space in NYC was no joke!) and also living with Mark.

We both enjoy cooking meals together and it’s much more fun to cook for two people and get to hear someone tell you how much they love what you made lol.

I’m hoping to share some of our favorite easy weeknight meals and more complicated weekend endeavors on this blog, but for now I want to share some of my favorite cookbooks we use and love the most!

Crossfit myths debunked

It always surprises people when I mention that I do Crossfit. No, I can’t do 50 pull-ups (or even 1), no I’m not in a cult, and no I haven’t gained 20lbs of muscle. But, I have gotten rid of lower back pain that bothered me for years and I now look forward to working out in a way I haven’t since I rowed in college.

Crossfit gets a bad rep sometimes I think because people don’t understand it or all they see of the sport is super fit people doing crazy things on the internet. So it can seem intimidating and unapproachable. Since I’ve actually come to really enjoy it, I thought I’d debunk some of the myths I’ve heard about the sport or that people have asked/ said to me.

florida fall wedding

I cannot believe our one year anniversary is this week! Sometimes it feels like just yesterday I was knee-deep in planning with my mom and other days it feels like our wedding was ages ago.

I hadn’t started this blog back when we got married, so for our one year I thought it’d be fun to look back at our big day and share some of my memories, favorite photos and our wedding video!

It is freakishly HOT in Southern California right now. Like 102°, sun-blazing, make you want to sit in the pool and move as little as possible hot. I don’t know about you, but when the weather’s this warm, I need iced coffee.

And you know all the articles that say cutting a daily Starbucks habit can save you a gazillion dollars a year? Well, that’s one piece of life advice I’ve always followed.

I’ve been on the making coffee at home train for years, but only recently learned the magic of making my own cold-brewed iced coffee. You may think you could just make a pot of hot coffee and pour it over ice– but that will dilute the coffee and it won’t be the perfect level of cold. Instead, the process of cold brewing makes for a smoother, less acidic coffee that really can’t be beat.
