Food guide to Tokyo and Kyoto

I realized as I was writing my trip recap of our time in Japan that I had wayyy too much to talk about for one post. I wanted to share all the sights we saw and places we went, but also wanted to write about all the amazing food we ate (SO MUCH RAMEN)!

So I decided to break it up and share this post today all about what we ate in Tokyo and Kyoto because honestly, the food scene in Japan is enough of a reason to go! And at the end I’m sharing some random things I noticed while in Japan.

Tokyo Kyoto trip guide

We got back one week ago from our trip to Japan! It was such a cool experience and completely exceeded my expectations. Mark had been picked to participate in a conference at his company’s headquarters in Tokyo and I of course immediately jumped on board to go with!

Mark went for 10 days and I joined him for the second half. After travel time, I ended up having 4 nights and about 3.5 days in Japan, and while that sounds super quick, it actually felt like a long vacation because we squeezed SO much in. We even did a day trip from Tokyo to Kyoto!

I only know a few people who have been to Japan, but everything I’d heard is that it’s like going to a different planet… and I have to agree. We had such an amazing time, the people are so nice, public transit is insane and the food is incredible- but it’s really unlike any other big city I’ve ever been to. So today I’m sharing some of the things we did and our favorite moments from our whirlwind trip to Japan.

I should have been a travel adviser in another life!

As I was putting together an agenda for a trip I’m leaving on tomorrow (stay tuned on Instagram to find out where!) I thought it could be helpful to share how I plan out trips. When Mark and I travel together he handles a lot of the more technical stuff like flights/ hotels and I do the daily itinerary planning which I find fun! So these best tips for planning a trip focus on how I plan out the details, not the basics of getting to/ from and staying in a location.

So today I want to share some photos and moments from an early Christmas we spent in Tahoe with Mark’s family in early December + photos from our Christmas in Florida with my family.

Mark and I spent Thanksgiving in Austin with a bunch of his family and had such a great time! I’m a tad late in posting about our trip because it’s been such a busy week/weekend, but I wanted to share some photos + details on what we did/ where we ate!

Austin is such a fun city and I’m so glad we were able to explore a bit and check off some places on my restaurant bucket list between lots of fun family time and turkey eating!
